Anthony Joshua’s Upcoming Bout Against Kristian Prenga
In a recent development, heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua‘s match against Kristian Prenga has been relocated ahead of their scheduled bout on July 25. This fight, which serves as a preparatory contest for Joshua before a highly anticipated showdown with Tyson Fury later this year, will now take place at the Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia, rather than its previously announced venue in Riyadh. The change was publicly revealed during a press conference, though no explanation for the relocation was provided.
Fighter Records and Background
Joshua, 36, a former world heavyweight champion, aims to secure victory against Prenga, an opponent with a record of 20 wins and one loss, all his victories coming by way of knockout. On the other hand, Joshua boasts an impressive record of 29 wins, with 26 of those victories by knockout. In December, he last saw action in the ring, defeating social media star Jake Paul by stoppage in a six-round match.
Preparation for Tyson Fury
This bout against Prenga marks an essential step for Joshua as he prepares for an eventual clash with fellow British heavyweight Tyson Fury, who is also in training for a warm-up match set for August, potentially in Dublin. Fury, 37, has confirmed that both fighters are keen on finally facing each other, with a potential fight date of October or November at London’s iconic Wembley Stadium.
Previous Fights in Saudi Arabia
Joshua has previous experience fighting in both Riyadh and Jeddah; he faced Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch in Jeddah in 2022, and earlier this year, he scored wins over Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou in Riyadh. He also had a notable victory over Andy Ruiz Jr. in a rematch held in Diriyah, another city within Saudi Arabia, back in 2019.
Tragic Incident and Focus on the Fight
Only ten days after his contest with Paul, Joshua was involved in a tragic car accident while traveling in Nigeria, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of two of his team members. As the fight against Prenga approaches, Joshua is focused on achieving a decisive win to move closer to a historic encounter with Fury.
