Lewis Crocker to Face Liam Paro in IBF Title Defense This June in Brisbane

Lewis Crocker Set to Defend IBF Title

Lewis Crocker, the current IBF world welterweight champion hailing from Belfast, is set to defend his title against Australian boxer Liam Paro on June 24, at the Pat Rafter Arena in Brisbane. The announcement confirming both the date and location of the match was made on Wednesday.

Pivotal Moment in Crocker’s Career

This upcoming bout serves as a pivotal moment in Crocker’s career, who, at 29 years old, views a potential victory over Paro as a gateway to unifying the welterweight division by facing other titleholders. Crocker initially captured the title last September with a closely contested split decision against Paddy Donovan at Windsor Park in Belfast.

Although there was a desire to hold this title defense in his home city against the mandatory challenger Paro, negotiations fell through and were ultimately resolved through a purse bid. No Limit Promotions outbid Matchroom, Crocker’s promotional team, by $27,000 (£20,000) to secure the fight.

Injury and Comeback

Earlier this year, manager Jamie Conlan disclosed that Crocker was on the mend from a hand injury, which had hampered his training and fight preparations.

Paro’s Ambitions

Meanwhile, Paro is eager to reclaim world champion status, previously winning the IBF super lightweight title in 2024 after an impressive victory over Subriel Matias. The Australian also dominated a match against David Papot in the same venue last September, setting the stage for his upcoming challenge against Crocker.
