Hearn Advocates for Katie Taylor’s Main Event Farewell at Croke Park, Dismisses Joshua-Fury Venue

Prominent Boxing Promoter’s Vision for Katie Taylor

Prominent boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has made it clear that Katie Taylor should headline her highly-anticipated farewell fight at Croke Park this summer. At the same time, he dismissed the possibility of the Dublin venue hosting any potential bout between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.

Finalizing Discussions for Taylor’s Farewell

Hearn, who leads Matchroom Boxing, is heading to Dublin this Friday to finalize discussions surrounding what is likely to be the last match of Taylor’s admirable boxing career. This development follows comments from Peter McKenna, the chief executive of Croke Park, who previously mentioned that the stadium could accommodate Taylor’s farewell if it also hosted the Joshua-Fury heavyweight battle.

Joshua-Fury Fight Scheduled for November

However, with the high-profile Joshua-Fury fight now scheduled for November, Hearn no longer sees Croke Park as an option for that event. He confirmed this in statements made to various outlets, including PA and The Independent, emphasizing that if the bout occurs in November, it certainly won’t be located outdoors in Dublin, prompting him to push ahead with Taylor’s plans.

Firm Stance on Taylor’s Fight Placement

Hearn was adamant that Taylor should not be placed on an undercard. He expressed his sentiments firmly, stating:

“With all due respect, I don’t think it’s the place to do this fight, either. Also, absolutely over my dead body is Katie Taylor going on an undercard at Croke Park.”
