Goole Amateur Boxing Club Launches Fundraising Campaign
In a determined effort to advance its mission, Goole Amateur Boxing Club (GABC) in East Yorkshire is launching a campaign to gather £225,000 for the enhancement and expansion of its facilities. The club, located on Boothferry Road, plans to purchase not only its current building but also an adjacent property. This expansion is deemed vital to accommodate the increasing interest in boxing and to improve accessibility for the local community.
Growing Membership and Community Impact
Since opening its doors in 2021, GABC has rapidly grown to over 225 members, catering to individuals from young children of eight to adults over the age of 60. This diverse membership includes specific classes tailored for those living with Parkinson’s Disease, underscoring the club’s commitment to inclusivity. GABC aims not just to foster talent in the ring but also to instill valuable life skills in its participants.
Voices of Support
Andrew Horncastle MBE, the club’s chair of trustees, emphasized the importance of establishing a permanent home for GABC to continue its impactful work, stating, “To sustain our efforts, we require a stable base. The chance to acquire both buildings is essential, yet it represents a significant financial challenge.”
Among the club’s supporters is local farmer Richard Longthorp, who personally benefits from the training programs. He praised GABC for its exceptional contributions to members of all ages, saying, “Boxing training can be transformative, whether someone seeks fitness, weight loss, or aspires to Olympic success. The current waiting list indicates a substantial demand, and without expansion, many eager participants could be left behind.”
How to Support GABC
For those interested in supporting this initiative, details can be found on the club’s website, offering an opportunity to contribute to a local institution that plays a crucial role in personal development through boxing.
