Foster Defeats Ford in Majority Decision to Retain WBC Junior Lightweight Title

O’Shaquie Foster Defends WBC Title

In a gripping contest that unfolded on Saturday night at the Fertitta Center on the University of Houston campus, O’Shaquie Foster successfully defended his WBC junior lightweight championship against Raymond Ford, winning by majority decision. The signed scorecards read 118-110, 116-112, and a surprising 114-114, which reflects the close nature of the bout; however, Foster’s late-game performance ultimately allowed him to pull ahead and secure victory, raising his career record to 25 wins and 3 losses, with 12 of those victories coming by knockout.

Post-Fight Rivalry and Performance

Following the fight, Foster, who hails from Orange, Texas, was seen exchanging verbal jabs with WBO junior welterweight titleholder Shakur Stevenson, who is also Ford’s training partner. Although such a match with Stevenson is not immediately in the cards, Foster expressed satisfaction in settling the rivalry with Ford, who is now at 18 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw, including 8 knockouts.

Fight Highlights

The bout started off fiercely, as both fighters gave as good as they got in a competitive opening. Foster was able to knock Ford out of the ring in the first round, but fortunately, Ford was unharmed and quickly back in the ring to continue the fight. Initially, Ford was aggressive and focused on attacking Foster’s body but struggled to overcome Foster’s solid defense.

As the fight progressed, Foster began to find his rhythm and capitalized on his timing and experience. Rounds seven and eight showcased Foster at his best, as he landed precise combinations and dictated the pace. Ford sensed the fight slipping from his grasp and ramped up his efforts in the ninth, but Foster was resolute, repeatedly striking with his right hand and causing visible damage, including a bleeding nose for Ford by round eleven.

Looking Ahead

In total, Foster outstruck Ford 106 punches to 99, marking his third consecutive victory since a contentious defeat to Robson Conceicao back in 2024. Looking ahead, Foster conveyed his ambition, declaring,

“Skill for skill, I’m the best… If I can’t get Shakur next, hopefully, me and Emanuel Navarrete can do it, but y’all know who I want.”
