Fabio Wardley Triggers Rematch Clause Against Daniel Dubois Following Championship Defeat

Dubois vs. Wardley: A Swift Rematch on the Horizon

British heavyweight boxers Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley are on track for a swift rematch, following Wardley’s decision to invoke a contractual provision for a second bout. In a dramatic showdown last Saturday, Dubois overcame adversity by recovering from knockdowns in the first and third rounds to ultimately stop Wardley in the 11th round, thus capturing the WBO heavyweight championship. This encounter, held at the Co-op Live arena in Manchester, marked a significant moment in Wardley’s career, as it handed him his inaugural professional defeat.

Wardley’s Determination for Redemption

Wardley, who is 31 years old, expressed his intention to reclaim the title through a rematch, revealing to Sky Sports his desire to correct the missteps he made in their previous fight.

“The boxing world knows my character, and Saturday night proved that without a shred of doubt. It was a fight for the ages, but I made some mistakes that I will rectify in the rematch. Congratulations to Daniel, but I’m coming for you… and my belt!”

Injuries and Future Predictions

While the exact timing of the rematch remains uncertain, predictions suggest it could happen later in 2026. The recent clash left Dubois with an injury around his left eye, while Wardley sustained aggravations to an already injured nose and a cut above his right eye. In previous bouts, Wardley had demonstrated a remarkable ability to rally from behind, notably knocking out Justis Huni in the 10th round last June, and stopping Joseph Parker in the 11th round in October, which led to his interim WBO title.

Dubois: A Two-Time World Champion

Dubois, who at 28 is now a two-time world champion with a record of 23 wins out of 26 fights, first ascended to the championship ranks in 2024 when he seized the interim IBF title against Filip Hrgovic. Like Wardley, Dubois was elevated to full champion status when Oleksandr Usyk vacated the title. Dubois has been tested at the highest level, having previously defended his title against Anthony Joshua before losing it to Usyk in a rematch last summer. Usyk’s departure from the WBO title landscape came in November, removing him from the undisputed champion conversation.
