Casemiro Backs Carrick for Permanent Manchester United Role
Brazilian midfielder Casemiro has expressed his strong support for Michael Carrick to become the permanent manager of Manchester United, stating that he has “totally earned” the position after significantly improving the team’s performance this season.
Manchester United’s Struggles and Turnaround
After Ruben Amorim’s dismissal, Manchester United found themselves in a challenging position, holding the sixth spot in the Premier League with just 31 points from 20 games. The team struggled to find their footing during a 2-2 draw against Burnley under interim coach Darren Fletcher, yet once Carrick resumed his role as caretaker, everything changed dramatically.
Under Carrick’s guidance in 14 matches, United notched up an impressive record of 10 wins, 2 draws, and only 2 losses—one against Leeds United and another against Newcastle. This rejuvenated form has propelled the club to third place in the league, securing a Champions League berth for next season. Notably, they have also managed to defeat title contenders Arsenal and Manchester City, alongside victories over Liverpool and Chelsea, showcasing their remarkable turnaround.
Casemiro’s Praise for Carrick
Casemiro highlighted that since Carrick took over, United leads in the Premier League form table, having achieved 32 of their 64 points in a mere 14 matches.
“In my view, he really deserves the Manchester United job,”
Casemiro told ESPN Brazil. He emphasized that Carrick has demonstrated outstanding coaching capabilities that warrant the club’s complete trust in him.
“He arrived in the midst of a tumultuous season and successfully transformed the atmosphere, not just within the team but for me personally, as he was a former player and a midfielder like myself,”
Casemiro remarked. He praised Carrick’s extensive experience at United and his prior role as a club idol, stating that he deserves recognition for his contributions during a turbulent period for the club.
Aiming Higher
However, despite showing optimism for Carrick’s capabilities, Casemiro also pointed out that Manchester United should strive for more than just a Champions League spot.
“For a club like United, the goal should always be about winning titles. Settling for third place isn’t sufficient; we must aim higher,”
he asserted.
Casemiro’s Future Plans
Casemiro, who transitioned from Real Madrid—where he enjoyed considerable success with three La Liga titles and five Champions League trophies—confirmed he plans to depart from Old Trafford at the end of the season, indicating his desire to leave on a high note.
“I think it’s time to go out the right way after four wonderful years. I’m eternally grateful to the fans and the club, and I want to leave on a positive note. I will always be a supporter of United in England,”
he concluded.
