British heavyweight Tyson Fury plans August warm-up bout before Joshua clash

Fury’s Return and Joshua Showdown

Heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury is signaling plans to return to competitive action in early August, with Dublin positioned as the likely venue for a preparatory bout ahead of his highly anticipated matchup against fellow British boxer Anthony Joshua later in the year. The pairing with Joshua remains unconfirmed in terms of specific date and location, though October or November timeframes have been circulated, with Wembley Stadium mentioned as a potential host.

Fury’s strategy mirrors that of his future opponent. Joshua has already scheduled a summer appearance against relatively modest competition, facing Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia on July 25. By fighting roughly one week later, Fury would maintain competitive sharpness before the marquee showdown.

Social media posts from the 37-year-old fighter on Tuesday referenced an August 1 event in Ireland, with accompanying text mentioning his training base in Thailand and recent camp preparations. This follows his most recent professional engagement in April at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where he secured a decisive points victory over Russian opponent Arslanbek Makhmudov.

That April triumph represented Fury’s fifth return from retirement, occurring after consecutive points defeats to Ukrainian champion Oleksandr Usyk ended his previous campaign. Prior to the Makhmudov engagement, Fury had not competed since December 2024.

Dublin Event and Long-Awaited Clash

Intriguingly, Fury has teased the possibility of facing retired football legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the Dublin slot, with the pair sharing provocative social media imagery suggesting potential matchup plans. A joint Instagram posting announced the August 1 Dublin event, attributed to Saudi boxing promoter Alalshikh.

The Joshua-Fury contest represents a long-deferred collision between heavyweight titleholders. Despite being contracted to face each other in 2021, legal complications involving former champion Deontay Wilder prevented that meeting, forcing Fury into a trilogy bout with Wilder instead, which he won via knockout. Joshua, aged 36, last competed in December, defeating content creator turned boxer Jake Paul in a Netflix-streamed event that concluded in round six.

Streaming platform Netflix is anticipated to broadcast the Fury-Joshua bout whenever it materializes. Industry speculation suggests a rematch between the rivals could occur in 2027 should both fighters remain active.
