Amanda Serrano Announces Retirement Plans
Amanda Serrano, the unified champion in the women’s featherweight division with an impressive record of 48 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw — including 31 knockouts — announced on Wednesday her intention to retire from boxing by the end of 2026. At the age of 37, Serrano is gearing up to defend her titles against Cheyenne Hanson this coming Saturday in El Paso, Texas, as part of MVPW-03, where the main event features a much-anticipated rematch between Stephanie Han and Holly Holm.
Chasing Milestones
As a seven-division champion, Serrano is not only eyeing her retirement with a milestone of 50 wins but also chasing Christy Martin’s knockout record of 32. She has recently entered into a lifetime deal with Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), signaling her plans to contribute to women’s boxing initiatives after she retires.
Reflections on Her Career
In a statement to ESPN, Serrano expressed her journey in boxing, saying, “I’ve dedicated 17 years to this profession, experiencing a roller coaster of emotions and challenges. I believe it’s time to step back while advocating for the future of women in this sport.”
Nevertheless, she is keen on tying Martin’s knockout record and remains determined to achieve that before stepping away.
Future Aspirations in MMA
Serrano’s ambitions within the ring extend beyond boxing; she has shown interest in returning to mixed martial arts (MMA). Inspired by MVP’s recent MMA card featuring legendary fighters like Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano, Serrano, who has a record of 2 wins, 0 losses, and 1 draw in MMA, admitted that she feels a strong desire to compete again in the octagon.
“If MVP is looking to expand its MMA efforts, I’d gladly return for one fight, especially against the right opponent,” Serrano commented, hinting at the thrill of potentially facing Carano.
With Rousey stating her retirement after a quick victory over Carano, Serrano sees an opportunity to potentially face the former MMA star herself.
“I’d welcome the chance to enter the cage with Gina, as it would allow me to showcase my MMA skills, which many might not be aware of. I’m unbeaten in this sport and have two submissions to my name,” she added, highlighting her credentials beyond boxing.
Looking Ahead
As Serrano prepares for her upcoming fight and considers her options in MMA, fans are eagerly awaiting both her title defense and the prospect of seeing her return to mixed martial arts in the future.
