Brenden Aaronson’s Wedding and World Cup Preparations
Midfielder Brenden Aaronson recently shared the anxiety he experienced when he discovered a scheduling conflict between his wedding and the U.S. men’s national soccer team’s training camp ahead of the World Cup. Aaronson, who tied the knot with childhood sweetheart Milana D’Ambra on May 30 along the picturesque New Jersey coastline, admitted that the couple was caught off guard when they realized their wedding day coincided with the team’s preparations, which officially started on June 1.
Planning and Panic
The couple had confirmed their wedding venue more than two years prior, with expectations that the official camp would not interfere.
“When she found out that we were supposed to report to camp at that time, we were a bit panicked. So much work and planning had gone into this day, especially for Milana,”
Aaronson remarked, reflecting on their emotions at the moment.
A Whirlwind Experience
Following a hectic schedule that saw him travel from Leeds United’s training in the UK to the U.S. roster reveal in New York, and subsequently to his wedding in Jersey before returning to Fayetteville, Georgia for training, Aaronson described the experience as a “whirlwind” but ultimately an unforgettable series of days.
Communication with Coaching Staff
In an effort to address the situation, Aaronson reached out to U.S. head coach Mauricio Pochettino in March, suggesting that he could change his wedding date if necessary. He praised Pochettino for his understanding, highlighting the open lines of communication between players and coaching staff. Fortunately, the overlap did not hinder his preparation schedule as much as initially feared, allowing him to enjoy his special day without significant consequences for his national team commitments.
Looking Ahead
Despite the celebrations, Aaronson remains focused on the upcoming matches, stating,
“I’m incredibly thankful to the coaching staff for the support. It was a beautiful day, but now I’m ready to dive back into preparations for the World Cup.”
The U.S. team will face Germany in their final friendly match before heading into the tournament, which commences against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on June 12.
