Pacquiao’s Psychological Tactics Ahead of Rematch
In anticipation of their imminent rematch, Manny Pacquiao has initiated a series of psychological tactics against fellow boxing icon Floyd Mayweather. Recently, Pacquiao unveiled his training hub at a location that once housed Mayweather’s own boxing gym in Los Angeles, now rebranded under Pacquiao’s name as Pacquiao Prime Boxing Club. This announcement was detailed in an article by Ring Magazine published on Tuesday, emphasizing the strategic importance of the site, located in a bustling and prominent area of the city.
Strategic Business Move
The decision to convert the old Mayweather Boxing + Fitness location was not taken lightly, as Pacquiao’s team plans to erase all traces of Mayweather’s branding from the facility. Jas Mathur, former associate of Mayweather and now the CEO of Pacquiao Promotions, clarified that this move is rooted solely in business strategy rather than personal rivalry.
This is not an emotional decision; it’s a business decision.
Mathur stated to The Ring, highlighting that the move forms part of a larger vision for expanding the Pacquiao Prime Boxing franchise, with aspirations to open many similar establishments in the future.
Context of the Rematch
Despite the rebranding, it’s worth noting that the original Mayweather gym ceased operations after the franchise owner chose not to renew the lease. However, Mayweather maintains a global presence with numerous gyms still in operation, despite facing rumored financial challenges recently.
The highly anticipated rematch, set for September and to be aired on Netflix, will revisit their iconic 2015 bout, where Mayweather triumphed decisively. There have already been disputes related to the terms of the event, particularly with Mayweather questioning the finalization of the Sphere as the venue, and intriguingly suggesting that the rematch may be classified as an exhibition, thereby protecting his undefeated record. In response, Pacquiao’s team asserted their commitment to holding Mayweather accountable to the contractual terms he signed, demonstrating the serious nature of the upcoming contest.
