Lionel Messi Initiates Solo Training in Kansas City as Argentina Prepares for World Cup

Lionel Messi’s Training Journey

Lionel Messi has begun his training journey in the United States as he works meticulously on his recovery from a hamstring injury. The captain of Inter Miami, who has been dealing with muscle fatigue in his left hamstring since May 24, participated in a separate workout session in Argentina’s first training camp in Kansas City. With the World Cup opener against Algeria fast approaching on June 16, expectations are high that Messi will make a timely return to full fitness.

Training and Rehabilitation

During Monday’s session, the 38-year-old star focused on specific exercises tailored for his rehabilitation. His teammates who face similar fitness issues—Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martínez, Nico Paz, Leandro Paredes, Nico González, Thiago Almada, Gonzalo Montiel, and Nahuel Molina—also trained individually while receiving attention from the physiotherapy team. According to the Argentina Football Association, these players are making satisfactory progress towards recovery.

Team Updates

Encouragingly for coach Lionel Scaloni, Cristian ‘Cuti’ Romero and Julián Álvarez have rejoined full training after healing from their respective issues. Romero has bounced back from a ligament sprain in his right knee, while Álvarez has returned to action following an ankle injury sustained on May 5.

Upcoming Matches

As Argentina prepares for their vital warm-up match against Honduras scheduled for Saturday, they will also take on Iceland on June 9 in Auburn, Alabama. Following these matches, the team will kick off their title defense against Algeria, before facing Austria on June 22 and Jordan on June 27, both in Arlington, Texas.
