Lamine Yamal Overcomes Injury Fears Ahead of World Cup Debut with Spain

Lamine Yamal’s Injury Concerns

Lamine Yamal, a promising young forward for Spain, expressed his concern about potentially missing the upcoming World Cup due to a hamstring injury sustained during a match with Barcelona. The 18-year-old athlete suffered the injury on April 22 while successfully converting a penalty in a La Liga clash against Celta Vigo.

After scoring, he immediately signaled to the bench for assistance and fell to the ground, clutching the back of his left leg. In a recent interview with the Spanish soccer federation, he shared his fears about the severity of the injury.

“I’ve never experienced a hamstring problem like this before, and I realized it might take a significant time to heal,” Yamal recounted. “I was praying it wasn’t serious, just hoping it was a cramp or something minor, especially with the World Cup so close.”

Fortunately, team officials have indicated that he is on track to be fit for the tournament, which begins on June 11 in North America. Spanish national team coach Luis de la Fuente has confirmed that Yamal is likely to be available for either of Spain’s first two matches in the group stage.

World Cup Preparations

The squad will kick off their campaign against Cape Verde on June 15 in Atlanta, followed by matches against Saudi Arabia on June 21 and Uruguay on June 26 in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Yamal, who is expected to play a crucial role in the team’s pursuit of a second World Cup title—Spain’s first came in 2010 in South Africa—expressed enthusiasm ahead of the tournament.

“The moment has finally arrived. Since the end of the European Championship, we have all been looking forward to this day and are incredibly excited. As the reigning European champions, we will give it our all in this tournament,” he said.

The Spanish squad officially commenced their World Cup preparations on Saturday in Madrid, drawing a crowd of around 2,000 fans to watch their first training session on Sunday.
