Inter Milan Triumphs as Serie A Champions After Decisive Win Against Parma

Inter Milan Secures Serie A Championship

Inter Milan secured the Serie A championship title with a decisive 2-0 victory against Parma at the iconic San Siro Stadium on Sunday. The first goal came from Marcus Thuram, who netted right before halftime with a well-placed shot that evaded the grasp of Parma’s goalkeeper, Zion Suzuki. Veteran midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan then extended the lead in the 80th minute, scoring after receiving a crucial pass from Lautaro Martinez, the league’s top scorer who made a much-anticipated return from injury as a substitute.

Celebration and Team Spirit

As the match drew to a close, the joyful home fans celebrated in song, and players swiftly took to the pitch, reveling in their hard-earned triumph following the final whistle. Thuram, whose roots trace back to Parma due to his father Lilian Thuram‘s history with the club, expressed the collective spirit within the Inter team, stating:

“Since I arrived at Inter, it’s been a team that loves to stay together — on and off the field — and that’s our strength.”

Long-Awaited Achievement

Under the guidance of head coach Cristian Chivu, this championship was a long-awaited achievement for Inter, who had already secured their position as champions earlier in the season. Even a draw in the Parma match would have sufficed to clinch their second Serie A title in three years. Last season, Inter finished as runners-up to Napoli but had previously ended an 11-year title drought by winning the league two seasons ago. With this latest win, Inter Milan now boasts 21 Serie A titles, only surpassed by Juventus, who have 36.

Chivu’s First Major Trophy

Chivu, a former Inter player with 168 appearances during his tenure from 2007 to 2014, marked this victory as his first major trophy as a head coach after taking over from Simone Inzaghi in June 2025. Amidst the euphoria, midfielder Nicolò Barella reflected on the team’s past challenges, particularly how he was part of the Italian national team that failed to qualify for the World Cup for the third consecutive time. He stated:

“That’s football and life. There are difficult moments. Last season, we came so close to everything and won nothing. In life, you always have to get back on your feet.”

Looking Ahead

This league title follows a disappointing early exit for Inter from the Champions League playoff against Bodo/Glimt in February. The club now has a chance to achieve a domestic double as they prepare to face Lazio in the Coppa Italia final on May 13, which would echo their last success in both the league and cup under the management of José Mourinho in 2011.
