Anthony Olascuaga to Defend WBO Flyweight Title Against Andy Dominguez in San Francisco Show Aiming for Historic Attendance

Upcoming Championship Fight

On July 11, Anthony Olascuaga will put his WBO flyweight championship on the line against Andy Dominguez in an event slated to take place at the Civic Center Plaza in San Francisco. This match is part of a fight card that aims to shatter the longstanding attendance record of 135,132 set during the 1941 clash between Tony Zale and Billy Pryor in Milwaukee.

Event Organization

The occasion is being organized by Ed Pereira through his recently established promotion, iVisitBoxing, with Sampson Lewkowicz appointed as the lead promoter. A press conference is scheduled for May 7, where details of the event will be unveiled and streamed live on YouTube.

Fighter Profiles

Olascuaga, who has a professional record of 12 wins and 1 loss with 9 knockouts, gained prominence after stepping in for Jonathon Gonzalez to face then-unified light flyweight champion Kenshiro Teraji in April 2023. Despite ultimately losing that bout, his performance was notable given it was just his sixth fight. Just two bouts later, he secured the WBO flyweight title by defeating Riku Kano via a third-round stoppage. Since becoming champion, he has successfully defended his title five times, with the upcoming match marking his sixth defense.

Challenging Olascuaga will be Dominguez from Mexico, who holds a record of 13 wins, 1 loss, and 6 knockouts. Dominguez has rebounded with three consecutive victories following his defeat to Puerto Rican Olympian Yankiel Rivera. In that bout, he notably hurt Rivera in the ninth round, though Rivera secured the win by unanimous decision. Dominguez’s last fight ended in a split decision win against Byron Rojas.

Fight Card Highlights

Additionally, the fight card will showcase WBO’s No. 2-ranked middleweight, Vito Mielnicki Jr., who is set to face Gerardo Luis Vergara. Recent super featherweight title contender Charly Suarez will square off against Manuel Avila, while Gurgen Hovhannisyan will go head-to-head with Uila Mau’u in a matchup featuring undefeated heavyweights.
