Zubimendi keeps options open amid Arsenal links, praises idol Xabi Alonso

Martín Zubimendi Keeps Options Open for Future

Despite ongoing rumors linking him to Arsenal, Martín Zubimendi has affirmed that he is keeping his options open regarding his future. The 26-year-old midfielder, who plays for Real Sociedad and the Spanish national team, has attracted interest from several top clubs, including Real Madrid and Liverpool, although he declined a move to the latter last summer.

“It certainly seems like this summer will be lengthy and uncertain for me, with various possibilities on the table. However, I am focusing on my responsibilities with the national team right now rather than engaging in transfer speculation.”

Transfer Rumors and Social Media Speculation

Zubimendi revealed that a deal with Arsenal appears imminent, pending a medical examination, but he remains uncertain about how this summer’s transfer season will unfold. Last week, he sparked discussion when he posted leisure photos from a beach in San Sebastian on Instagram, contradicting reports that he was undergoing a medical in the UK for Arsenal. He explained,

“This illustrates how wild the football world can be. I often come across stories about myself that are simply untrue. My intent with those pictures was to highlight that things were not as they seemed.”

Career and Admiration for Xabi Alonso

Having spent his entire professional career at Real Sociedad, Zubimendi regards a potential transfer to Real Madrid as just another possibility. Nevertheless, he openly admires Xabi Alonso, the newly appointed Madrid coach, calling him an idol. Zubimendi reflected,

“I’ve always admired Alonso, and I consider myself fortunate to have been coached by him during a pivotal year in my career while with the reserve team. However, I prefer to concentrate on the present rather than speculate about the future. Addressing such hypothetical situations would be disrespectful given my commitment to the national team as we prepare for a critical matchup against France in the Nations League semi-finals this Thursday.”
