Zach Edey Faces Legal Issues
Zach Edey, who plays as a center for the Memphis Grizzlies, has been charged with a misdemeanor for reckless driving following an incident in Tippecanoe County, Indiana, on May 1. Reports indicate that an Indiana State Police officer clocked Edey driving at a staggering 101 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone on State Road 25 in West Point.
After being pulled over, Edey stated that his excessive speed was due to his intention to overtake another vehicle. He was subsequently let go at the scene, but he now faces legal repercussions with a court appearance set for Monday.
Rookie Season Achievements
In his rookie season, the 23-year-old was the ninth pick in the 2024 NBA draft and displayed impressive performance stats. He led all rookie players with a field goal percentage of 58% and an average of 8.3 rebounds per game. Edey also ranked fourth in blocks and second in plus-minus ratings across rookies, earning a spot on the NBA All-Rookie team with a total of 12 double-doubles, the highest for a rookie in Memphis since Marc Gasol’s 2008-09 season.
Setbacks in Athletic Career
In addition to his legal troubles, Edey is also facing a significant setback in his athletic career, as sources have disclosed that he is expected to be sidelined at the start of the 2025-26 NBA season. This decision follows a re-injury to his left ankle during an offseason training session, which has necessitated surgery to restore stability in the joint.
This comes on the heels of a previous injury that caused him to miss 12 games in his debut season, a result of twisting the same ankle back in November.
