Yankees make a strategic move, acquiring Angel Chivilli from the Rockies

The New York Yankees Strengthen Their Bullpen

The New York Yankees are bolstering their bullpen for the coming season, having secured right-handed reliever Angel Chivilli from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for minor league infielder T.J. Rumfield.

About Angel Chivilli

Chivilli, who hails from the Dominican Republic and is 23 years old, has spent the past two seasons in Major League Baseball. In the previous year, he struggled with a 7.06 ERA over 43 relief appearances, although he showed some improvement in 2024 with a 4.55 ERA across 30 outings. Over his career thus far, he has registered 71 strikeouts against 33 walks, while allowing 20 home runs across 90 and one-third innings pitched.

Roster Changes

To accommodate Chivilli on their 40-man roster, the Yankees designated outfielder Michael Siani for assignment. This acquisition is part of a broader strategy for the Yankees this offseason, following their participation in the American League Division Series.

Additional Acquisitions

In addition to bringing in Chivilli, the team previously traded for left-handed starter Ryan Weathers from the Miami Marlins, sending four prospects in return. They also re-signed pitchers Ryan Yarbrough, Paul Blackburn, and Tim Hill to enhance their rotating staff.

T.J. Rumfield’s Background

T.J. Rumfield, the player dealt to the Rockies, is a 25-year-old from Richmond, Virginia, who has built his experience in the minor leagues since 2021 across the Philadelphia Phillies and Yankees organizations.
