Kylian Mbappé’s Role at Real Madrid
Kylian Mbappé, who has already netted six goals for Real Madrid in their first five matches of the season, will not be guaranteed a starting position in every game. Coach Xabi Alonso emphasized the importance of squad rotation due to the demanding schedule ahead. During a press briefing, Alonso indicated that while Mbappé is undeniably a key player for the team, there will be instances where he might begin matches on the bench.
“We have a busy calendar, and at some point, Kylian will need to adjust to not starting,” Alonso remarked, stressing that it is still early in the season to jump to conclusions about player positioning.
Vinícius Júnior’s Situation
Alonso also addressed Vinícius Júnior‘s recent feelings after being excluded from the starting XI in the Champions League match against Marseille, where they secured a 2-1 victory. Rodrygo took Vinícius’s place for that match but did not start the conversation with him immediately after the game; however, he noted an improvement in Vinícius’s mood during training.
“He seemed more upbeat today, and we had a brief chat. He did some individual training and ended on a positive note,” Alonso stated.
When asked if Vinícius would feature in the upcoming league clash against Espanyol, Alonso kept his decisions under wraps:
“We will see what tomorrow brings.”
Team Cohesion and Player Contributions
Alonso praised both Rodrygo and Vinícius for their contributions, whether starting or off the bench, highlighting their complementary skills.
“Both have been impactful in games, and I appreciate the qualities they each bring,” he asserted.
The coach is focused on ensuring all players feel integral to the team’s success, naming several key figures like Jude Bellingham and Fede Valverde, alongside Mbappé and Vinícius, in discussions about player value and contribution.
Injury Updates and Future Plans
Additionally, Alonso hinted at opportunities for Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga, both of whom have recently returned from injuries, although defender Dean Huijsen will miss the next fixture following a dismissal in the previous match against Real Sociedad. Alonso’s objective remains clear: to create a cohesive unit where every player understands their significance within the squad.
