Wrexham AFC’s Pursuit of Christian Eriksen
Wrexham AFC is in discussions to acquire midfielder Christian Eriksen, who is currently a free agent. The 33-year-old Danish international recently concluded his contract with Manchester United, where he did not extend his stay this summer. Having ascended through three tiers of English football in as many seasons, Wrexham, now competing in the Championship, aims to enhance their roster ahead of the new campaign.
Insights from Eriksen’s Agent
Martin Schoots, Eriksen’s agent, recently shared insights with Mail Sport about Wrexham’s ambitious project, emphasizing the significant upgrades occurring both on and off the pitch. He highlighted the involvement of respected figures, such as Michael Williamson, as indicative of the club’s forward momentum. However, Schoots noted that Eriksen’s aspirations lean towards remaining in top-tier competitions and staying within Western Europe.
“There are ongoing discussions, but we need to ensure that any potential move aligns with both parties’ goals,”
he stated.
Eriksen’s Career Highlights
Eriksen boasts an impressive career profile, having made 650 appearances overall, with 310 of those in the Premier League. His time in England has seen him score 55 goals and provide 81 assists at the highest level. Additionally, he has netted 46 goals for Denmark over the course of 144 international appearances. During his last season with Manchester United, he featured in 35 matches, contributing five goals and six assists, although he was limited to just 11 starts in Premier League play.
Wrexham’s Summer Transfer Activity
This summer, Wrexham has been active in the transfer market, securing several players including Lewis O’Brien from Nottingham Forest, and Josh Windass from Sheffield Wednesday, along with Danny Ward from Leicester City and Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle. Notably, they also acquired Liberato Cacace from Empoli for a club-record fee. The team is set to kick off their Championship journey with a match against Southampton at St Mary’s on August 9, further signaling their intent to make a mark in the league.
