Wrexham AFC Announces Record Signing of Nathan Broadhead
Wrexham AFC has proudly announced the acquisition of Nathan Broadhead, a striker coming in from Ipswich Town, in a deal that reportedly reaches £10 million, setting a new record for the club. The signing, confirmed on Thursday, sees the 27-year-old forward agree to a four-year contract at the StōK Cae Ras, pending international clearance.
Significance of the Signing
Broadhead’s arrival marks a key moment for Wrexham, who have closely monitored his situation over recent weeks, especially following Ipswich’s recent addition of Chuba Akpom from Ajax. The Bangor native is familiar with the Wrexham youth setup, having joined Everton at the age of 10 before moving to Ipswich for £1.5 million in January 2023, where he was in the last year of his prior contract.
Manager Phil Parkinson shared his enthusiasm for Broadhead, stating, “I’m thrilled to welcome Nathan to the Club. As a local lad, his eagerness to represent his hometown team was evident, and we are excited about what he will bring in the upcoming seasons.”
Wrexham’s Ambitious Strategy
Wrexham’s investment in Broadhead follows a series of significant transfers since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took ownership of the club in 2021, with the transfer record being shattered multiple times. Just last month, midfielder Lewis O’Brien made his move from Nottingham Forest for approximately £3 million, contributing to Wrexham’s push for success in their first season back in the Championship after a 43-year hiatus.
With Broadhead, Wrexham now has nine new signings since rising from League One last season, a strong signal of their ambitions as they aim to disrupt the Championship landscape.
International Experience
Broadhead has earned 14 caps for Wales, netting two goals, and he will be joining his fellow internationals Danny Ward and Kieffer Moore at the StōK Cae Ras. Expressing his excitement, Broadhead said,
“This has been a long time coming, and I’m overjoyed to join the Club. Belief will be crucial for our performance this season, and we want to inspire everyone from North Wales down to the StōK Cae Ras to support us wholeheartedly.”
