Wrexham Adds New Zealand Defender Liberato Cacace to Ongoing Promotion Efforts

Wrexham AFC’s Ambitious Acquisition

Wrexham AFC is taking significant steps in their quest for promotion with the recent acquisition of Liberato Cacace, a New Zealand international who has joined the club on a three-year contract from the Italian side Empoli. Announced on Friday, the transfer fee is undisclosed, but reports suggest it surpasses the club’s previous record expenditure of £2 million ($2.7 million) for striker Sam Smith in January.

Exciting Times for Wrexham

The 24-year-old left-back has made the move following three years with Empoli, who were relegated from Serie A last season. Cacace’s arrival comes at an exciting time for Wrexham, who have experienced an impressive streak of three consecutive promotions under the stewardship of their Hollywood co-owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, which has seen them advance to England’s Championship.

Cacace’s Enthusiasm

Cacace expressed his enthusiasm about joining Wrexham, stating, “I’m absolutely delighted to sign for this historic Club, and I just can’t wait to get started. Looking from the outside, what they are creating here is something I want to be part of. The family they have here — it’s a tight-knit Club and that enticed me.”

He noted that after an encouraging conversation with the manager, his desire to join solidified.

Preseason Tour and Future Ambitions

Currently, Wrexham is involved in a preseason tour across Australia and New Zealand, with a scheduled match against Wellington Phoenix upcoming in New Zealand’s capital. Cacace, who started his professional career in Wellington, has earned 33 caps for the New Zealand national team. Wrexham’s head coach, Phil Parkinson, expressed his satisfaction with the signing, stating,

“We are delighted to welcome Libby to Wrexham and look forward to integrating him with the squad on our return home.”

The club’s ambitions for the Championship season, along with their hopes of reaching the Premier League, will kick off with a match against Southampton on August 9.
