Washington Wizards Launch New City Edition Uniforms

The Washington Wizards announced the launch of their new City Edition uniforms on Monday, drawing inspiration from an iconic gold design that fans will remember from its use between 2006 and 2009. Instead of simply replicating the all-gold attire, this updated jersey will make its first appearance on November 16 during a game against the Brooklyn Nets.

Design Features

The new design features a bold black stripe at its center, topped with a white stripe that underscores the word “Washington” emblazoned on the front. This detail harkens back to the Wizards’ 2021 City Edition “mixtape” look.

The aesthetic is further enriched with additional black stripes framing the neckline, shoulders, and player numbers, while a black side panel runs along the shorts and waist. According to Rebecca Winn, the senior vice president of marketing for the team, the black and gold color scheme had been a strong request from both fans and players since the inception of the City Edition series in 2017. Winn noted,

“When Nike encouraged us to ‘remix’ a previous City Edition, the classic Wizards uniform from 2006 was the first one that came to mind.”

Additional Elements

In addition to the striking colors, the new uniform features a silhouette of the Washington Monument nested within the “Washington” text, showcasing a revamped Wizards logo on the belt buckle. Additionally, the insignia representing the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area will be displayed on the left side of the shorts — a nod to the 2021 iteration, which was the first from a D.C. sports team to incorporate “DMV” into its design.

Future Plans

The Wizards plan to sport these uniforms throughout 29 games during the 2025-26 season, and fans can look forward to the unveiling of a specially themed City Edition court in due course.
