Winnipeg Jets secure Kyle Connor with record-breaking $96M extension ahead of new season

Winnipeg Jets Secure Long-Term Commitment with Kyle Connor

In a significant move just before the start of the NHL season, the Winnipeg Jets have secured a long-term commitment from their standout forward Kyle Connor. On Wednesday, the organization announced a landmark eight-year contract worth $96 million—the largest in the team’s history. This investment underscores the faith Winnipeg has in Connor, who has been a reliable scoring force since being selected 17th overall in the 2015 NHL Draft.

Connor’s Impressive Career Performance

Throughout his eight-season career, Connor has demonstrated impressive consistency, netting 30-plus goals in seven seasons, with two of those campaigns seeing him exceed the 40-goal mark. His most recent achievement came during the 2024-25 season when he notched a personal best of 56 assists and a total of 97 points across 82 games. Since 2021, Connor ranks among the top 20 NHL players for both goals (153) and total points (331).

Jets’ Competitive Edge and Future Outlook

Last season, the Jets showcased their competitive edge by finishing atop the league with 116 points, although they faced a disappointing second-round exit against the Dallas Stars in the playoffs. The decision to retain Connor is pivotal for maintaining their status as a contender in the fiercely competitive Western Conference. He joins a strong core unit that includes notable talents like Connor Hellebuyck, a multiple Trophy winner for goaltending, and top forward Mark Scheifele, along with defenseman Josh Morrissey.

Looking Ahead: International Aspirations and Season Kickoff

At 28 years old, Connor joins three other key players—Scheifele, Gabriel Vilardi, and Neal Pionk—who are also signed through 2030, solidifying the Jets’ roster for the foreseeable future. As Connor gears up for the new season, he also has international aspirations, having recently participated in Team USA’s 4 Nations Face-Off tournament and attending the Olympic orientation camp this summer in preparation for NHL player participation in the 2026 Milan-Cortina Games.

The Jets will kick off their season with a home game against the Dallas Stars on Thursday, marking a fresh start as they integrate Connor’s extended presence into their strategy for success.
