Toluca’s Championship Triumph
After a lengthy period of disappointment, Toluca has finally clinched a championship title, marking an end to a 15-year title drought and adding an eleventh star to its badge. This achievement has reignited the hopes of the club’s supporters, as Toluca has returned to prominence in Liga MX, a stark contrast to the struggles faced by other clubs, particularly the Pumas of UNAM.
The Struggles of the Pumas
The Pumas have not experienced the thrill of victory in a championship for 13 years, their last triumph occurring in 2011 over Monarcas. Historically, the Pumas are known as one of Mexico’s most successful football teams; however, their trophy collection has remained dormant since then.
The Championship Correlation
Interestingly, a pattern has emerged between these two clubs: every time Toluca secures a championship, Pumas seems to follow suit the subsequent year. This trend has occurred three times in the past, fuelling speculation that the Pumas might be poised for a resurgence in 2026.
Previous instances of this correlation include Toluca’s championships in 2003 and 2008, where the Pumas won titles in 2004 and 2009, respectively. Similarly, after Toluca’s success in 2010, the Pumas celebrated victory in 2011.
Now, the question arises: with Toluca crowned champions in 2025, could the upcoming year signify a revival for the Pumas?
