Adventure Across America
In an adventurous endeavor that combines sports, learning, and philanthropy, Aiden and Owen Finocchietti, twin brothers from Wellington, Florida, are set to embark on an exciting year-long journey across the United States, celebrating their 11th birthday on January 20, 2026, in Oklahoma. The ambitious project will kick off on May 30, as they travel to 50 different states to participate in junior tennis tournaments, demonstrating both their sporting talents and commitment to a cause.
Tennis and Travel
The twins will stay for one week in each state, competing in under-12 tennis events while traversing iconic American landscapes, from the towering redwoods to the sparkling gulf waters. Their journey will be facilitated by their grandfather, Barry Mabe, who has purchased a 2010 Winnebago for this unique excursion, investing around $20,000 in the motorhome to ensure a comfortable travel experience. Mabe has been planning this expedition for his grandsons for five years, linking it with an educational aspect by intending to homeschool them on the road.
“One of the main goals of this adventure is to engage with the local culture in each state and learn from the people we meet,” Mabe stated.
The journey is particularly poignant as it not only aims to enhance the twins’ tennis skills but also introduces a charitable component. The Finocchietti boys will raise awareness for “Send Us International”, a missionary group that is particularly active in Panama, during their travels.
Family Support and Concerns
Elisha, their mother, who played tennis at Palm Beach Atlantic University, expressed a mix of excitement and concern about the upcoming trip as her sons will undertake this significant journey without her constant supervision.
“It’s an incredible opportunity for growth and experience, but as a parent, the absence makes me a little nervous,”
she admitted. The twins’ father, Gabe, will provide support by joining in whenever possible, although work commitments may limit their availability.
Planning and Logistics
The trip comes with significant logistical planning, totaling approximately $110,000 in expenses. This budget encompasses the purchase of the RV and provisions for accommodations, as the boys plan to stay with families in each state to minimize costs. Remarkably, donations from family and friends have already contributed around $56,000 towards their goal. Mabe has meticulously organized the itinerary, even coordinating travel to Hawaii and Alaska to align with professional tennis events.
Goals and Opportunities
As they prepare, Aiden and Owen are enthusiastic about their experiences ahead. Aiden shared his goal of earning 50 trophies, as well as visiting numerous museums and enjoying winter sports in states like Colorado and Utah. The twins started playing tennis at the young age of five and now rank in the top 900 nationally in the 12-and-under division, indicating their competitive spirit in the sport.
The family aims to keep a record of their journey through photography and video documentation, possibly culminating in a documentary that showcases their experiences. The first stop of their journey is scheduled for May 31 at Bartram Trail in Jacksonville, followed by South Carolina, setting the stage for an unforgettable adventure filled with challenges, growth, and camaraderie.
Passion and Purpose
By traveling across the country, Aiden and Owen not only pursue their passion for tennis but also promote a cause close to their hearts, making this journey one of both personal development and community connection. As their grandfather reflects on this endeavor, he acknowledges the complexity of planning such a detailed itinerary, indicating that the road ahead holds both excitement and uncertainty for all involved.
