Walker Opens Up About His Spurs Years: Would Trade PL Title for Europa League Win

Kyle Walker’s Reflective Podcast Moment

Kyle Walker, the Manchester City defender, expressed a heartfelt desire to have experienced a trophy-winning moment with Tottenham Hotspur by suggesting that he would trade one of his Premier League championships for that opportunity.

During his time on the Kyle Walker Podcast, he reflected on Spurs’ recent success, as they captured the Europa League title, ending a 17-year period without silverware with a 1-0 victory against Manchester United last May in Bilbao.

Longing for a Trophy with Spurs

The 35-year-old, who spent a significant eight years at the North London club, described the triumph as pivotal, asserting,

“I’d probably give up one Premier League title to win that with Tottenham.”

He emphasized the importance of being part of the squad that brought home the long-awaited trophy, marking the team’s first accolade since 2007.

Walker recalled a strong attachment to Spurs, particularly after being a vital figure in their near success, such as their second-place finish in the Premier League in 2017 before making a £50 million transfer to Manchester City that summer.

“I understand what it meant to the club and its fans. I’d sacrifice my second Premier League title; it’s difficult to part with one, but the significance of that moment makes it worth considering,”

he noted.

Walker also shared fond memories of his former teammate Heung-Min Son, reminiscing about Son’s initial arrival from Bayer Leverkusen. He described the South Korean forward’s initial nervousness amid strong personalities in the squad and praised him for finally achieving success after years of close calls in various finals.

Future at Manchester City Uncertain

Meanwhile, Walker’s position at Manchester City appears to be in flux as he was not included in the squad for the Club World Cup.

With only one year remaining on his contract at the Etihad Stadium, where he has celebrated 16 major titles including six Premier League victories, a Champions League title, and a couple of FA and Carabao Cups, the defender’s future remains uncertain as he contemplates the next steps in his career.
