San Antonio Spurs vs. Charlotte Hornets
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — In an impressive comeback performance, Victor Wembanyama scored 32 points, secured 12 rebounds, dished out eight assists, and blocked three shots, leading the San Antonio Spurs to a 115-102 win against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday night. The young star’s return followed a brief one-game rest due to a sore right calf.
Game Highlights
Charlotte, looking to extend their winning streak after clinching victories in eight of their last ten games, saw Miles Bridges contribute 22 points, while teammate Kon Knueppel added 20. However, their efforts weren’t enough to overcome the Spurs, who solidified their position near the top of the Western Conference with 17 wins out of their last 19 games.
San Antonio currently boasts a 49-18 record, sitting 7.5 games ahead of the Houston Rockets, who are third in the standings at 41-25, and trailing the Oklahoma City Thunder, who hold the top spot with a record of 52-15.
The Spurs concluded their longest homestand with a strong 5-1 record. Their only setback during this stretch occurred in Wembanyama’s absence, falling 136-131 to the Denver Nuggets, which broke their five-game winning run.
Wembanyama’s Performance
In the first half of Saturday’s game, Wembanyama wasted no time making an impact, scoring 18 points and contributing significantly with two blocks and two steals. Despite facing some mishaps, including an alley-oop that he nearly lost, he managed to perform a follow-up slam to give San Antonio a nine-point lead early in the second quarter. His shooting was sharp, finishing 13 of 24 from the field and netting 5 of 10 from beyond the arc. Over his last five games, he has an impressive three-point shooting percentage of 46.9% (23 of 49).
LaMelo Ball, who led Charlotte, managed 17 points and grabbed the Hornets’ sole lead early with a long-range jumper. However, San Antonio quickly regained the advantage and maintained it for the remainder of the match.
Looking Ahead
Looking ahead, the Hornets are set to face the Miami Heat at home on Tuesday, while the Spurs will head to Los Angeles for a matchup against the Clippers on Monday.
