Florida Panthers Strengthen Roster with Veteran Signings
In a strategic move to bolster their roster, the Florida Panthers have inked one-year contracts with veteran forward Luke Kunin and seasoned defenseman Jeff Petry during the off-season. Both players are eager to contribute to the Panthers’ continuing journey toward success in the NHL.
Experienced Addition: Jeff Petry
As NHL off-seasons often entail a flurry of roster changes, the Panthers have welcomed these two experienced athletes, both seeking that elusive Stanley Cup victory. At 37 years old, Petry brings a wealth of experience from his 16 seasons, competing with notable teams such as the Edmonton Oilers, Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Detroit Red Wings—all while searching for his first championship ring.
“It truly feels like everybody really cares about everybody in the room. It’s not just words, it’s the actions.”
Last season, Petry played 44 games, recording one goal and eight points, but he believes he can still make a significant impact. Renowned for his offensive capabilities and his ability to direct power play units, Petry is looking forward to channeling his skills with the Panthers this season, especially with a roster that excites him.
“What excited me when the opportunity came was seeing those guys come back.”
Emerging Talent: Luke Kunin
Contrasting with Petry’s extensive experience, Luke Kunin, at 27, is on the path to solidify his role as a dependable two-way player. After spending some time with the San Jose Sharks, where he netted 11 goals and recorded 18 points in 63 games, Kunin was later traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets, but struggled to find his scoring touch during his brief tenure there.
Now, with a fresh start in Florida, Kunin feels invigorated. He expressed enthusiasm about joining what he perceives as a competitive culture within the Panthers.
“It’s obviously a special group. Happy to be part of a winning culture and do whatever I can to help the team continue to have success.”
Adding to the excitement is his personal connection with Matthew Tkachuk, a fellow St. Louis native and a close friend.
“He’s one of my best friends. It’s pretty cool we get to play together.”
Looking Ahead
With their sights set on a successful season ahead, both Kunin and Petry are eager to bring their experience and talents to the Panthers, who have a track record of success when adding new players to their lineup.
