Utah Mammoth Dominate Golden Knights with 4-0 Shutout in Las Vegas

Utah Mammoth Dominates Vegas Golden Knights

In a dominant performance, the Utah Mammoth overwhelmed the Vegas Golden Knights with a decisive 4-0 win on Thursday night in Las Vegas. Karel Vejmelka was impenetrable in goal for the Mammoth, successfully stopping all 28 attempts made by the Golden Knights, marking his second shutout of the season and the eighth of his NHL career over five seasons. This victory strengthens Utah’s position as they hold on to the first wild-card spot in the Western Conference following a notable resurgence, which included a recent 6-3 triumph against Dallas that ended a four-game slump.

Golden Knights Struggle

The Golden Knights, currently ranked third in the Pacific Division, saw their record drop to 2-2 on their recent homestand after suffering back-to-back defeats. Things escalated quickly for Vegas goalie Adin Hill, who was pulled from the game after conceding three goals without making a save. The onslaught began with Clayton Keller, who netted two goals in quick succession with only four minutes of play elapsed, followed by Jack McBain‘s strike which ended Hill’s night at the 8:12 mark of the first period.

Key Moments of the Game

Keller, the standout U.S. Olympian, scored his first goal just 2 minutes and 52 seconds into the game after receiving a pass from John Marino and finishing the play by slotting the puck home from the left side. He doubled his tally at 6:05, capitalizing on a rebound off the boards to score from the right. McBain then added insult to injury with a wrist shot from the high slot, finishing a breakaway initiated by Barrett Hayton.

With 48 seconds remaining in the game, Barrett Hayton sealed Utah’s shutout victory by scoring into an empty net. Lawson Crouse, who assisted on Keller’s second goal, also found himself involved in a physical altercation with Jeremy Lauzon of Vegas during the second period. Following Hill’s departure, Akira Schmid stepped in as goalie for the Golden Knights and managed to stop all 14 shots directed at him.

Looking Ahead

Looking ahead, the Mammoth will take the ice against Anaheim on Friday night, while the Golden Knights will travel to Nashville for their next game on Saturday.
