Manchester United Rejects Chelsea’s Proposal
Manchester United has reportedly turned down an intriguing proposal from Chelsea, which included the possibility of transferring either Romeo Lavia or Christopher Nkunku as part of the arrangement for Alejandro Garnacho‘s move to Stamford Bridge this summer, according to sources speaking to ESPN.
Alejandro Garnacho’s Transfer
Garnacho, aged 21, was officially signed by Chelsea on August 30 for a fee of £40 million (approximately $52.62 million) after falling out of favor with United’s head coach, Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United’s Summer Investments
As the summer window closed, Manchester United had already made significant investments totaling £225 million, bringing in new forwards Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko to bolster their attack, along with goalkeeper Senne Lammens on transfer deadline day.
Concerns Over Injury History
Despite acknowledging the requirement for additional midfielders, United declined Chelsea’s offer that involved Kingston-born Lavia, primarily due to concerns regarding his injury history. Lavia had just transferred from Southampton to Chelsea as part of the latter’s summer spending spree. However, his participation has been drastically hampered by injuries, with the young Belgian missing over 75 games and only managing 31 appearances across all competitions. He has yet to complete a full match for Chelsea and is currently nursing a quadriceps injury.
Nkunku’s Situation
Additionally, sources indicated that Nkunku was also proposed to Manchester United before he made a switch to AC Milan. The forward struggled with injuries during his tenure in the Premier League and was unable to replicate the successful performances he had shown at RB Leipzig.
Upcoming Matches
Looking ahead, Chelsea is set to visit Burnley on Saturday, while Manchester United will host Everton this coming Monday.
