Upcoming Fight Night Overview
As the highly anticipated fight night featuring Manny Pacquiao and Mario Barrios approaches, the event faces a potential setback with the absence of a key matchup.
Isaac Cruz vs. Angel Fierro Cancellation
Mexican boxer Isaac Cruz, who previously held the WBA super lightweight title, was set to face Angel Fierro in a rematch on the Amazon Prime Video pay-per-view card. However, on Friday, Fierro had to pull out of the fight due to health complications related to his weight cut, as reported by Ring Magazine.
“Medical advice prompted him to seek hospitalization, making his participation impossible.”
The bout was scheduled to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, where fans were eager to witness what Cruz and Fierro hoped would be another thrilling contest. Earlier this year, during the undercard of the David Benavidez vs. David Morrell fight, Cruz emerged victorious by unanimous decision in a match that was lauded as a Candidate for Fight of the Year.
Until that point, Fierro was relatively unknown to boxing aficionados, primarily fighting lighter weights against local opponents on Matchroom Boxing’s Mexican series.
Uncertainty Ahead
As of now, it remains uncertain if Cruz will compete in the event without a confirmed opponent, and finding a suitable replacement on such short notice seems improbable.
Additional Fight Cancellations
This cancellation marks the second major fight that has fallen through this week. Earlier, Austin “Ammo” Williams had his IBF middleweight title eliminator against Etinosa Oliha postponed due to an eye injury that ruled Oliha unable to fight, which was also set to headline the same Saturday night of exciting bouts.
