UConn Women’s Basketball Dominates Butler
The University of Connecticut women’s basketball team showcased its dominance this past Saturday, achieving an impressive 80-48 victory over Butler University at home. This win marks UConn’s 41st consecutive victory, reinforcing their position as the top-ranked team in the nation.
Standout Performances
Sophomore Azzi Fudd was a standout player, contributing significantly to the game by scoring 15 of her total 17 points in the first half alone. UConn’s lineup was somewhat altered as the team’s leading scorer and rebounder, Sarah Strong, sat out to get some rest—this was her first absence in two seasons. Additionally, two key players, Blanca Quinonez and Caroline Ducharme, were also unable to participate. In their stead, Allie Ziebell made her second start of the season, ultimately matching teammate KK Arnold with a team-high of four steals.
Supporting Fudd’s strong performance, teammates Serah Williams, Ashlynn Shade, and Ziebell each contributed 11 points, while Arnold finished with 10. In total, all nine players available for the Huskies scored at least two field goals.
Butler’s Efforts
Butler, maintaining competitive spirit, saw Caroline Dotsey lead their scoring efforts with 13 points. Saniya Jackson and Mallory Miller chipped in with nine points each, with Jackson also achieving a notable 12 rebounds.
UConn’s Historic Record
Notably, UConn’s remarkable record continues, with them achieving a perfect 25-0 for the eleventh time in program history. The Huskies have historically succeeded when starting the season with this record, having secured seven national championships under similar circumstances. Furthermore, their long-standing dominance against Butler was evident, as UConn has yet to lose in 10 matchups against the Bulldogs, winning by an average margin of 40.3 points.
Game Progression
In the game’s progression, Butler exhibited resilience, managing to reduce the deficit to just five points after a layup from Jackson late in the first quarter. However, UConn responded fiercely, closing the quarter with a 9-0 run. They built on that momentum with another 12-0 streak in the second quarter, ultimately leading to a commanding 44-19 advantage by halftime.
Looking Ahead
Looking ahead, Butler is scheduled to face Providence on Wednesday, while UConn will host Creighton on the same day. The UConn community remains optimistic as they witness their team extend its remarkable run this season.
