The game took a dramatic turn as Georgetown rallied from a 14-point deficit, trimming UConn’s lead to just two points in the final moments. UConn’s Silas Demary Jr. was also instrumental in the win, achieving a near triple-double with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists. He, along with freshmen Braylon Mullins and Eric Reibe, each contributed 10 points to the score.

In a significant achievement, Karaban set a new program record with his 136th career start and also claimed the title of the winningest player in UConn history—his presence on the court has led to a remarkable 116 victories against just 24 losses. As the game wound down, Karaban sealed the deal by making two free throws with just 10 seconds left on the clock.

First Half and Milestones

The first half saw Georgetown tying the game at 25 after overcoming a seven-point deficit, but UConn managed to pull ahead, leading 41-33 at halftime thanks to a 12-3 run led by Ball. Despite a shaky start to the second half where UConn missed several attempts, they maintained a lead with critical contributions from Karaban and Ball, both of whom hit crucial three-pointers late in the game. Ball’s fifth three-pointer allowed him to break the 1,000 career points threshold, joining Lewis, who also reached the milestone during the contest.

Halftime Honors and Upcoming Matches

The game was made even more special by the halftime induction of former UConn center Hasheem Thabeet into the Huskies of Honor. Thabeet, who was a cornerstone of the team from 2006-09, left UConn with 1,028 points, 847 rebounds, and an impressive 417 blocked shots, ranking behind only Emeka Okafor in career blocks at the university.

Looking ahead, Georgetown will host Butler on Wednesday, while UConn prepares to face Creighton at home on the same day.
