UConn Women’s Basketball Dominates Providence

In a dominant display at Gampel Pavilion, the UConn women’s basketball team capped off their regular season with a resounding 81-38 triumph over Providence. This victory not only marked their 29th win of the season, leaving them undefeated at 29-0 and a perfect 18-0 in the Big East, but also tied a program record by forcing an astonishing 39 turnovers on Sunday.

Star Performances

Star player Azzi Fudd shone bright in her last home game, contributing 13 points and securing four steals. The Huskies showcased their tenacious defense with an impressive total of 26 steals, reflecting their season-long trend of high-pressure play; this is the seventh time they have recorded 20 or more steals in a single game this season.

KK Arnold had a notable outing as well, posting eight points along with eight assists and a season-high seven steals, while Sarah Strong added 13 points in just 13 minutes of play. The team’s dominant performance has now seen them extend their winning streak to 45 games overall and 56 straight victories in conference play, demonstrating their prowess in the Big East.

Game Highlights

Despite a rocky start in which UConn missed its first seven attempts, their defense sparked an 18-0 scoring run, allowing them to take a commanding 21-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Huskies maintained their momentum with a 10-0 run in the second quarter, finishing the first half with a considerable 40-14 advantage—matching the fewest points allowed in a half this season.

Providence’s Princess Moody led the team with 11 points, while Payton Dunbar contributed nine points. The defeat now adds to UConn’s historical dominance over Providence, marking their 40th consecutive victory against the team, with 33 of those wins coming by margins of at least 25 points.

Senior Recognition and Future Matches

Following the match, UConn honored their senior players—Ice Brady, Caroline Ducharme, Azzi Fudd, Ayanna Patterson, and Serah Williams. Although Brady did not play due to a knee surgery that ended her season, the celebration recognized their contributions to the program.

Looking ahead, UConn is set to face Georgetown in Hartford this Thursday, while Providence prepares for a matchup against Creighton on the same day. As the NCAA tournament approaches, UConn is anticipated to play at least two matches at Gampel Pavilion and possibly three in the Big East tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena.
