UConn Triumphs Over Creighton
In a commanding display, the No. 2 ranked UConn men’s basketball team triumphed over Creighton with an 85-58 victory on Saturday night, marking their 17th consecutive win. The Huskies, boasting a record of 21-1 and maintaining an undefeated 11-0 in Big East play, achieved their largest margin of victory in a conference game on the road in two years.
Conversely, Creighton (12-10, 6-5) has faced significant struggles recently, suffering consecutive losses that have exacerbated their difficulties; this latest defeat by 27 points ties for the most significant home loss for Bluejay coach Greg McDermott across his 16 seasons at the school, as reported by Sportradar.
Game Highlights
Initially, Creighton managed to keep pace with UConn during the first half, but a dry spell lasting nearly five minutes without a field goal allowed the Huskies to seize control, culminating in a 14-3 run that extended UConn’s lead to 41-30 before halftime. The Huskies showcased remarkable efficiency, hitting 54.1% of their shots from the floor—their highest percentage in a Big East contest this season—and capitalizing on 13 offensive rebounds for 23 points. They were also impressive from beyond the arc, sinking 16 of their 31 attempts from 3-point range, translating to an effective 52% shooting rate.
Braylon Mullins made a notable return to action after previously missing a game due to a concussion, contributing 16 points and starting strong with several early 3-pointers, finishing with four overall in just 29 minutes of play. Meanwhile, teammates Alex Karaban and Silas Demary Jr. each added 15 points.
For Creighton, a lineup adjustment came as Nik Graves and Blake Harper made their first starts since December following a disappointing loss to Marquette. Graves led the Bluejays with 17 points, while Harper chipped in 11.
Second Half and Upcoming Matches
As the game progressed into the second half, UConn extended their lead to as much as 30 points, solidifying their dominance on the court.
Looking ahead, UConn is set to face Xavier on Tuesday, while Creighton will travel to Georgetown for their next matchup on Wednesday.
