In a commanding performance, UCLA captured a 71-64 victory against Northwestern on Saturday night at the Pauley Pavilion, largely thanks to the exceptional play of Tyler Bilodeau and Trent Perry. The duo lit up the scoreboard in the first half, netting a combined total of 28 points, each finishing the game with 18 points.

The Bruins surged ahead decisively in the first half, utilizing a powerful 10-0 run that established a 41-27 advantage late in the half. They headed into halftime with a comfortable lead of 41-31. With just under thirteen minutes remaining in the game, UCLA extended its lead to 58-42, showcasing their offensive strength. However, Northwestern managed to rally back, launching a 7-0 run that brought them within striking distance at 62-56. Jamar Brown quickly halted their momentum by sinking a crucial 3-pointer, and UCLA subsequently secured the win with solid free-throw shooting.
Player Performances
Bilodeau was particularly impressive, finishing the first half flawlessly, going 6 for 6 from the field, including four successful 3-pointers. He started the second half strong with a layup but finally missed a shot from beyond the arc later in the game, ultimately concluding with a shooting line of 7 for 11 from the field and 4 for 8 from deep. Perry also had a strong game with 12 points in the first half and hitting 6 of 12 overall. Additionally, Donovan Dent contributed significantly with 13 points and five assists, aiding in the victory following his standout performance against No. 4 Purdue earlier in the week, where he scored 23 points and provided 13 assists.
Northwestern’s Struggles
For Northwestern, Nick Martinelli led the scoring with 20 points and secured eight rebounds, while teammate Tre Singleton contributed 12 points and six rebounds. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, this loss marks their sixth defeat in the last seven games, leaving them with a disappointing record of 9-11 and 1-8 in conference play. Meanwhile, UCLA improved to 14-6 overall, and their record against Northwestern now stands at 7-1 in head-to-head matchups.
