UCLA Secures Tie for Big Ten Title with 82-67 Win Over Washington, Led by Betts’ Stellar Performance

UCLA Triumphs Over Washington

In a commanding performance, Lauren Betts scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds, leading No. 2 UCLA to an 82-67 victory over Washington on Thursday night. This triumph marks the Bruins’ 20th consecutive win and secures them a share of the Big Ten regular-season title.

With a record of 24-1 overall and 14-0 in conference play, UCLA has the opportunity to declare themselves the outright champions if they defeat Wisconsin on Sunday in their final home game of the regular season. Last season, the title was taken by USC, which was also a part of the Big Ten for its inaugural year alongside UCLA.

Game Highlights

The Bruins started strong, establishing an early lead of 22-12 by the end of the first quarter. Betts was crucial in the second quarter, contributing the initial six points of a 14-5 run that extended UCLA’s lead to as much as 19 points. By halftime, the Huskies found themselves trailing 42-29 after clawing back with a 12-6 run towards the end of the period.

Despite a slight resurgence from Washington, UCLA maintained their lead, ending the third quarter 63-48 with Betts scoring six of the first eight points.

Standout Performers

For Washington, freshman Brynn McGaughy emerged as the standout player off the bench, scoring 19 points — significantly above her average. Teammate Avery Howell added 17 points, while Sayvia Sellers, who usually leads the team with 19.3 points per game, was restricted to 14 points and dished out seven assists, ultimately struggling with foul trouble.

Looking Ahead

Looking ahead, Washington will host Nebraska on Sunday, while UCLA prepares to welcome Wisconsin in what promises to be an exciting end to the regular season.
