U.S. National Team Defender Antonee Robinson Undergoes Knee Surgery Ahead of Gold Cup

Antonee Robinson’s Knee Surgery

Antonee Robinson, the Fulham left-back and member of the U.S. men’s national soccer team, has recently had a surgical procedure on his right knee. Fulham announced that the 27-year-old player successfully underwent what they have deemed a “minor” surgery this past Tuesday. While the club has not provided a specific timeline for his recovery, they mentioned that Robinson is expected to enter a rehabilitation phase, aiming to be fit for the beginning of the 2025-26 season.

Impact on National Team Participation

Robinson did not participate in the U.S. national team’s Gold Cup roster this summer. This absence follows a demanding season in which he made 38 appearances across all competitions and contributed an impressive ten assists, the highest total for a defender in the Premier League. His previous season saw him named Fulham’s player of the season, during which he recorded six assists in the league.

Injury Concerns and Key Absences

Despite playing a significant role by appearing in 36 matches over the recent Premier League campaign, Robinson was sidelined for two of the last five games due to injury concerns. Additionally, he missed the Concacaf Nations League finals in March because of tendinopathy.

Robinson is among several key players, including Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, and Tim Weah, who will not feature in the upcoming Gold Cup. Pulisic also received a break after a long season with AC Milan, where he played 50 matches. Meanwhile, McKennie and Weah are engaged with Juventus as they participate in the Club World Cup.

Gold Cup Group Stage Matches

The U.S. team will face Trinidad & Tobago, Saudi Arabia, and Haiti during the group stage matches of the Gold Cup set to commence in June.
