Tyson Fury’s Comeback Announcement
In an unexpected turn of events, heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is set to make a comeback to boxing in 2026, as confirmed by Turki Alalshikh, a prominent figure in Saudi Arabian boxing. Fury, who has been absent from the ring since December following back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, had previously indicated his desire to remain retired.
Speculation and Future Matchups
Despite this, Alalshikh has revealed that he has secured Fury’s commitment to participate in the Riyadh Season event in 2026, sparking speculation about potential matchups. The boxing scene has been abuzz with rumors of Fury facing off against fellow British fighter Anthony Joshua before Fury decided to hang up his gloves.
After his emotional losses to Usyk, Fury reiterated his intention to retire, expressing satisfaction with his accomplishments and stating he felt no urgency to return.
“I’m happy, contented with what I’ve done,”
he remarked earlier this year while enjoying a well-deserved retreat in picturesque locations such as Como, Italy.
Fury’s Rivalry with Usyk
However, Alalshikh, while not revealing who Fury’s opponent might be, referenced a desire to “hunt” for a worthy challenger. Notably, Fury has previously described Usyk as an “ugly rabbit,” hinting at lingering animosity between the two, although many fans seem uninterested in a third bout between the rivals at this point.
Usyk’s Upcoming Title Defense
Meanwhile, Usyk himself is preparing for a significant title defense against Daniel Dubois, the IBF champion, at Wembley Stadium on July 19. Dubois’ prior knockout of Joshua disrupted the potential for a mega match-up between Fury and Joshua, a scenario that left Fury visibly surprised.
Fury’s Other Ventures
In addition to his boxing endeavors (or lack thereof), Fury also took on the role of manager for the England side in the charity football match Soccer Aid, which ended in a narrow 5-4 defeat at Old Trafford just last month. With his return to boxing confirmed for 2026, the boxing world is once again left abuzz with questions about the future of the heavyweight division and Fury’s place within it.
