Tyson Fury’s Attack on Oleksandr Usyk
Tyson Fury has once again launched a scathing attack on Oleksandr Usyk, dismissing the Ukrainian boxer’s victories over him despite being soundly defeated in both encounters. The former heavyweight champion, often referred to as the “Gypsy King,” labeled Usyk an ‘old man’ who is about to be outclassed by younger contenders like Moses Itauma.
Fury’s Dismissive Remarks
Fury’s comments followed Itauma’s impressive victory against Dillian Whyte in Saudi Arabia, which prompted him to reiterate his dismissive views about Usyk, the only fighter to achieve a win against him.
“Boxing favors the young, just as I told Wladimir Klitschko at 37. This sport is unforgiving and doesn’t wait for anyone.”
He added,
“Moses Itauma will dismantle all those aging fighters in the division: Usyk, Anthony Joshua, Jarrell Miller, Zhilei Zhang, and Luis Ortiz. All these former champions are past their prime.”
Usyk’s Status and Fury’s Frustration
Fury also implied that even the reigning champion Usyk, who was granted Fury’s former belts, is at risk of being overthrown by the rising star Itauma.
After Usyk’s successful defense against Daniel Dubois in July, Fury had offered minimal praise, stating,
“Congratulations to both fighters, but Usyk knows deep down that I’ve already beaten him twice, and that’s a fact known to the whole world.”
In reality, both of Fury’s clashes with Usyk resulted in unequivocal victories for the latter, showcasing Usyk’s superior skill and strategic intelligence in the ring, which has solidified his status as the true heavyweight champion in many eyes.
Fury’s unwillingness to face this truth illustrates his frustration following those defeats. Meanwhile, Usyk continues to hold an undefeated record in the heavyweight division, further consolidating his control over the category. Fury’s inability to accept this is reminiscent of his own previous adversities, especially regarding Deontay Wilder, who faced criticism from Fury for his own refusal to accept loss after their bout in February 2020.
