Tyler Adams Ruled Out for Upcoming Friendlies
Tyler Adams, the midfielder for AFC Bournemouth, has been ruled out of the United States men’s national soccer team for their upcoming friendly matches against Paraguay and Uruguay. This decision comes after a collision with teammate Adam Smith during the Bournemouth match against Aston Villa, which ended in a disappointing 4-0 defeat.
U.S. Soccer made the announcement on Monday, stating that Adams, along with Columbus Crew’s Sean Zawadzki, would not participate due to injuries sustained in their respective club games over the weekend, although no details about the nature of their injuries were specified.
Squad Adjustments and Upcoming Matches
In response to the absences, USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino has called in Timmy Tillman from Los Angeles FC to join the team’s training camp, with the squad convening in Philadelphia on the same day. This will be Tillman’s second appearance with the national team, having previously played in a friendly against Slovenia earlier this year.
The U.S. squad is set to take on Paraguay on November 15 in Chester, Pennsylvania, followed by a match against Uruguay on November 18 in Tampa. Adams, who recently scored his first Premier League goal in four years, left the match against Aston Villa in the 80th minute after suffering a knee injury.
Zawadzki was reported to have injured his right knee during a playoff match against FC Cincinnati, but Columbus Crew officials clarified that his condition is not expected to lead to a prolonged absence.
Roster Updates
The roster update also sees the return of Borussia Mönchengladbach players Giovanni Reyna and Joe Scally, alongside Ricardo Pepi from PSV Eindhoven. However, several key players such as Weston McKennie of Juventus, Christian Pulisic of AC Milan, Chris Richards from Crystal Palace, and Timothy Weah of Marseille are missing due to injury concerns. Pochettino noted that Pulisic was excluded from the current call-up to allow him time to fully recover from a hamstring issue sustained during the last international window. Meanwhile, Weah is facing a thigh injury, and Richards continues to deal with a calf problem.
This revised roster signifies a blend of returning talent and emerging players as the U.S. seeks to build momentum ahead of the friendly matches. The finalized lineup includes:
- Goalkeepers: Roman Celentano (FC Cincinnati), Matt Freese (New York City FC), Jonathan Klinsmann (Cesena), Patrick Schulte (Columbus Crew)
