Tszyu Aims for Redemption in High-Stakes Fundora Rematch

Tim Tszyu vs. Sebastian Fundora: A Pivotal Rematch

Tim Tszyu is preparing to face Sebastian Fundora in a highly awaited rematch for the WBO super-welterweight title, set to take place in Las Vegas. The Australian boxer, holding a record of 25 wins and 2 losses, is determined to avenge a controversial split decision defeat to Fundora, whose record stands at 22 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw. This pivotal matchup will take place at the MGM Grand on July 20 (AEST) and follows Tszyu’s earlier challenge against Fundora that ended with the Australian boxer hindered by a severe cut from a stray elbow, resulting in him fighting nearly blind for several rounds.

Importance of the Fight

Having suffered a setback with a knockout loss in October to Bakhram Murtazaliev, Tszyu sees this fight as crucial for both his reputation and career. He boldly claimed that this rematch represents a ‘kill or be killed’ mentality, visualizing a decisive victory where he sees Fundora down for the count.

“There’s nothing to be nervous about. He should be the one nervous; I’m coming in fresh. I intend to make this a different fight,” Tszyu declared, emphasizing that the stakes are elevated this time.

He highlights the importance of being prepared, mentioning he has brought in tall southpaw sparring partners to closely mimic Fundora’s style during his training back home in Sydney, despite the limited notice before the fight.

Adapting to Challenges

Originally set to face Keith Thurman, who was sidelined due to injury, Tszyu quickly adjusted his training regimen to prepare for Fundora.

“It’s going to be different this time, no excuses, I’ve left no stone unturned in my preparation,” he stated.

A Year of Redemption

Tszyu sees 2025 as a year of redemption and renewal for his boxing legacy, propelled by a recent victory over American Joey Spencer. He is eager to rewrite the narrative of his career and prove to the U.S. audience that he is a fighter who brings action and excitement to the ring.

The fight against Fundora symbolizes not just the clash of two fighters, but a chance for Tszyu to reclaim his spot among the elite in boxing, where every match is steeped in personal stakes and relentless ambition.
