West Ham Declines Tottenham’s Offer for Mohammed Kudus
West Ham United has declined a substantial £50 million offer from rivals Tottenham Hotspur for Ghanaian forward Mohammed Kudus. Negotiations between the clubs are ongoing as Spurs pursue the 24-year-old, who is reportedly prioritizing a transfer to Tottenham if he departs from West Ham. Fortunately for Spurs, negotiating personal terms with Kudus is anticipated to be straightforward.
Contract Details and Performance
Earlier reports indicated that Kudus, whose contract extends until 2028, includes a buyout clause that was active only for the first ten days of July. This clause was valued at:
- £80 million for European clubs
- £85 million for teams in the Premier League
- £120 million for clubs in Saudi Arabia
West Ham secured Kudus from Ajax in August 2023 for a transfer fee of €41.5 million (£35.6 million), with additional performance-based add-ons amounting to €3 million (£2.5 million). Upon his arrival, Kudus swiftly became integral to manager David Moyes’ strategy, achieving an impressive tally of 18 goals and 10 assists across 48 matches in his debut season. However, his performance dipped in the recent 2024-25 season, where he netted five goals and provided four assists in 35 matches as West Ham concluded the league in 14th place.
Kudus’ Previous Achievements
Prior to his time at West Ham, Kudus distinguished himself at Ajax, scoring 27 goals in 87 appearances and playing a pivotal role in helping the team clinch consecutive Eredivisie titles in 2021 and 2022.
Spurs’ Transfer Strategy
Spurs are actively seeking to fortify their attacking options this summer, particularly after securing Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich for €35 million, a deal that includes €10 million in potential bonuses following his successful loan spell last season. The club is also rumored to have shown interest in Bournemouth player Antoine Semenyo while exploring other options. Additionally, there was a bid to convince Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo to join, but he has indicated a preference for a transfer to Manchester United instead.
