Top Seeds Like Alcaraz and Sinner Ready For 2025 Cincinnati Open

Cincinnati Open 2025 Draw Unveiled

The eagerly awaited draw for the 2025 Cincinnati Open has finally been unveiled, highlighting the participation of the top two players in men’s tennis. This ATP Masters 1000 tournament serves as the final significant competition leading up to the US Open and is scheduled to take place from August 7 to August 18. Expectations for the Cincinnati Open are high, especially following a less impressive lineup at the recent Canadian Open, as star athletes Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have confirmed their participation after a brief break following their dramatic Wimbledon final matchup.

Notable Withdrawals

In a significant development, however, former world number one Novak Djokovic will not be in attendance, alongside other notable withdrawals including Jack Draper, Grigor Dimitrov, and Alexander Bublik. Thus, the spotlight will undoubtedly fall on Alcaraz and Sinner, who are seeded first and second, respectively, and will feature on opposite halves of the draw, creating exciting potential matchups.

Player Matchups and Expectations

Sinner, looking to defend his title after his triumph last year, will kick off his campaign against either a qualifier or Vit Kopriva. Should he succeed, a potential third-round clash with the robust 30th seed Gabriel Diallo looms ahead, who possesses a formidable serve that could present a challenge.

On the other hand, top seed Alcaraz, whose name appears last in the draw, enjoys a first-round bye and awaits the victor of the second-round match between Mattia Bellucci and Damir Dzumhur. He might face the 26th seed Tallon Griekspoor in the third round, setting the stage for some thrilling encounters.

Former Champions and Rising Stars

Among the former champions aiming for a second title in Cincinnati is Jannik Sinner himself. In addition, Daniil Medvedev, a former winner in 2019 and currently the 12th seed, seeks to make a mark against a qualifier or Adam Walton in his opening round, potentially setting up a matchup against the 22nd seed Jiri Lehecka.

Alexander Zverev also returns as a former champion, having previously claimed the title in 2021. This year, he’ll be the third seed and finds himself in Alcaraz’s half, with a second-round meeting scheduled against either Gael Monfils or Nishesh Basavareddy. Zverev may then meet Brandon Nakashima further along.

Another underdog looking to rekindle past success includes Borna Coric, the shock 2022 champion, who is set to begin his tournament against Christopher O’Connell. A potential second-round clash awaits him with the fourth-seeded Taylor Fritz standing on the path if Coric progresses.

Young Talents to Watch

In addition to the established stars, the tournament showcases a crop of young talents eager to shine. Among them is fifth-seeded Ben Shelton, who could face Kei Nishikori if the latter overcomes Camilo Ugo Carabelli. The seventh seed, Holger Rune, also aims high, with his first challenge against Alejandro Tabilo or Roman Safiullin in the initial rounds.
