The Detroit Red Wings have been without Patrick Kane for several weeks due to an injury he sustained during their narrow 2-1 overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on October 17. Despite his absence, the team has maintained a positive trajectory, securing five wins out of their last eight matchups and achieving victories in three of their last four games on the road. With a successful start to their centennial season, the Red Wings are positioned second in the Atlantic Division and third overall in the Eastern Conference.
Update on Patrick Kane’s Recovery
Head coach Todd McLellan recently provided an encouraging update regarding Kane’s recovery, confirming that the forward will not participate in the ongoing road trip, which culminates in a game against the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday night. However, following the announcement of Auston Watson’s reassignment to the Grand Rapids Griffins, McLellan expressed hope that Kane could potentially rejoin the team for practice later in the week. He stated:
“That is a sign that there’s a really good chance he could skate with us on Thursday. While we’re still awaiting further updates, we’re receiving positive feedback from key individuals, including Patrick himself, and we hope to see him back on the ice to practice shortly.”
Kane’s Performance Before Injury
In the five games he played before his injury, Kane was showcasing formidable skills, tallying two goals and three assists for a total of five points, reflecting the scoring prowess typical of his illustrious career. This isn’t the first time Kane has signed a one-year extension with the Red Wings, as he did so again on June 30 for the second consecutive offseason. His return to Detroit in December will mark the two-year anniversary of his decision to join the team following hip resurfacing surgery in 2023.
Upcoming Games
After the upcoming game against the Golden Knights, the Red Wings will head home to challenge the New York Rangers on Friday, followed by a Sunday afternoon contest against Kane’s former team, the Chicago Blackhawks.
