Nick Kyrgios Joins TNT Sports as Pundit
Nick Kyrgios is set to take on a new role at TNT Sports, where he will offer his insights as a pundit during the singles finals of Wimbledon. This opportunity comes in the wake of his exclusion from the BBC‘s coverage, a decision he openly criticized.
Engaging Commentary Experience
Kyrgios’s involvement is part of TNT Sports’ strategy to present a more unconventional and engaging commentary experience, distinguishing itself from BBC’s traditional broadcast. TNT Sports, which will also showcase its coverage on Discovery+, reassured viewers that its offerings are meant to provide an alternative rather than compete directly with the BBC’s established format.
Kyrgios’s Commentary Skills
The decision to include Kyrgios as a key analyst is especially noteworthy, considering his previous experience as a commentator for the BBC last year when he was sidelined by a wrist injury. Despite facing backlash from some lawmakers over past controversies, which included a conviction for assault, Kyrgios remains confident about his commentary skills, stating:
“I know I’m a great commentator”
He suggested that his absence from the BBC’s lineup was more detrimental to them.
Dynamic Commentary Team
TNT’s commentary team will be anchored by Craig Doyle, with Alastair Eykyn lending his voice to the events. Joining Kyrgios in the studio will be fellow tennis athletes CoCo Vandeweghe and Dan Evans, setting the stage for a dynamic analysis team.
Innovative Broadcast Format
The broadcaster’s move to include a watchalong-style format taps into the growing trend among younger audiences, evident in the popularity of similar formats introduced by influencers like Mark Goldbridge and football pundit Gary Neville. Additionally, TNT Sports will air daily highlight shows throughout the tournament and provide live coverage of both the men’s and women’s finals, following the absorption of Eurosport‘s tennis rights into its portfolio, which has been a traditional broadcaster of the finals since 2016.
