Timberwolves’ Rudy Gobert Suspended for One Game Following Flagrant Foul Against Spurs

Timberwolves’ Rudy Gobert Suspended

The Minnesota Timberwolves will be without their center, Rudy Gobert, as they prepare for their matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday. This absence comes after the NBA handed Gobert a one-game suspension on Monday, following a flagrant foul he committed during the Timberwolves’ close 104-103 victory against the San Antonio Spurs the previous day.

Details of the Suspension

The NBA disclosed that Gobert accumulated his sixth flagrant foul point during the game, which triggered an automatic suspension under the league’s disciplinary system. He was penalized with 7:24 left in the match when he impeded Spurs’ rookie Victor Wembanyama‘s landing space after a three-point attempt, resulting in the flagrant foul call.

Entering that contest, Gobert held five flagrant foul points, and the league’s guidelines stipulate that any player with this many points will face an automatic suspension upon the next flagrant foul.

Future Disciplinary Actions

At 33 years old, Gobert is now subject to further disciplinary actions; should he commit another flagrant foul, he would face a one-game suspension if categorized as a flagrant foul 1, or a two-game ban if classified as a flagrant foul 2, thus elevating his point total to seven. The NBA maintains strict protocols, where reaching seven points results in a two-game suspension for each additional flagrant foul, independent of its severity.

Gobert’s Performance This Season

Throughout this season, Gobert has been performing well, averaging 11 points and 11.4 rebounds over 40 games. As of now, the Timberwolves boast a 26-14 record and are positioned fourth in the Western Conference, heading into their game against Milwaukee.
