Tim Weah completes move to Marseille on loan from Juventus, continuing family legacy

Tim Weah Transfers to Olympique de Marseille

Tim Weah, an international player for the United States, has finalized a transfer to Olympique de Marseille from Juventus. This transfer includes an initial loan arrangement that requires a future permanent transfer, as confirmed by both clubs on Wednesday.

Return to Ligue 1

This marks Weah’s return to Ligue 1, having previously played for Lille and Paris Saint-Germain. At 25 years of age, the versatile player can operate as a winger or full-back. He had moved to Juventus from Lille in 2023 but only saw action in 18 matches in the Serie A during the last season.

Family Legacy

This transition also continues a family legacy for Weah, whose father, George Weah—once a Ballon d’Or winner—briefly played for Marseille from 2000 to 2001. Sources indicate that Juventus was keen to let Weah go to allow for new signings within their roster. Earlier this summer, the club reached an agreement to send him to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League; however, Weah opted against that move.

Looking Ahead

Now, under the banner of Marseille, which is readying itself for a campaign in the Champions League after finishing just behind PSG in Ligue 1, Weah is set to make an impact. He has a total of 44 caps for the U.S. men’s national team but notably did not compete in this year’s Gold Cup due to his club’s commitments at the Club World Cup, where he appeared for only one half as Juventus was eliminated in the round of 16.

Weah has now taken a significant step in his career by choosing to join Olympique de Marseille, and fans eagerly await his next moves on the field.
