Thibaut Courtois and His Motorsport Aspirations
Thibaut Courtois, the 33-year-old goalkeeper for Real Madrid, has expressed his aspiration to advance his motorsport team, TC Racing, to higher tiers, with a goal of competing in Formula 2. An enthusiastic motorsports aficionado, Courtois attended the Belgian Grand Prix last weekend, further igniting his passion for racing. He has owned TC Racing since 2023, and the team is currently participating in Formula 4.
Long-Term Goals and Challenges
During an interview with Sporza, Courtois detailed his long-term ambitions for the team, hoping to elevate their status within the racing circuits and even considering the possibility of pursuing racing personally after his football career concludes.
“Right now, we are active in Formula 4 in Spain, but our plan is to step up to Eurocup-3 soon,” stated the Belgian international.
He humorously acknowledged the challenge that would come with trying to reach Formula 1, noting the need for substantial financial backing.
“The ultimate goal is to ascend to Formula 3 and eventually aim for Formula 2,” he declared.
Managing a Racing Team
Courtois reflected on the complexities of managing a racing team, admitting that the logistical challenges were greater than he initially anticipated. Nonetheless, he noted that despite the hurdles, the inaugural season brought some success, and this year’s performance has seen further improvements. He remains optimistic about the team’s future ambitions.
Business Ventures and Personal Interests
In addition to his achievements as a prominent goalkeeper—having clinched two Champions League titles and three La Liga championships—Courtois also actively engages in various business ventures, which include the esports organization DUX Gaming alongside his motorsport endeavors.
His fascination with motorsports can be traced back to childhood visits to Formula 1 events, where he was an admirer of Ferrari and Michael Schumacher. As he shared,
“I did follow MotoGP too, but I’m mainly drawn to motor racing and Formula 1.”
He recounted his sponsorship experience with a Formula E team in Spain, which served as a catalyst for his own team’s formation. Courtois enjoys attending grand prix events, having visited famed locations such as Monaco, Le Castellet, and Barcelona.
Future Racing Aspirations
Looking ahead, Courtois is excited about the prospect of racing once he retires from soccer. He fantasizes about participating in GT3 races, although he approaches the idea with caution about his skills.
“I want to be sure of my capabilities before jumping in, as I don’t want to lag behind the others,” he admitted.
Given his towering height of 6’7″, he recognizes the challenges associated with fitting into racing vehicles, noting that safety is paramount—his height makes it difficult to fit securely in F4 cars.
Contract Extension with Real Madrid
In related news, ESPN recently announced that Courtois has committed to a two-year contract extension with Real Madrid, which will see him remain with the team until June 2027.
